From our Area Chairman, Jeff:

Kevin D, our CPC/TF Chair, has really made some headway on the California Association of Probation Institutions Administrators (CAPIA) Training Conference being held in Shell Beach, October 2-5, 2007. He just received a package from New York GSO packed with great display items, pamphlets, Big Books, 12 & 12s & even a rack to go with. He has been our point man, coordinating help from the other California Areas in AA.... and as we get closer to the date....all the pieces are coming together. Thank you Kevin! :>)

Please pass my thanks along to your groups for their continued support of Area 93 (CCAA). We would not be able to have a presence like this in our communities without their contributions. If you are in proximity to district 22 during this time and would like to help, contact Kevin D. 805-462-1648 -or- email: cpc@aaarea93.org

Another item of interest, George R. our archivist, just returned from the Archives Workshop held in Arizona & wanted to express his gratitude to our groups for supporting this vital service. GSO has attached a great value to this event and will now be funding our national Archivist, Amy F.  to the Workshop in future years.

Please utilize these events and others to keep our groups "in the know" & thank them, from me, on behalf of Central California Area Assembly (CCAA).

October 27th is the “Old Timers” event. This is an Area 93 event.

Area 93 will have a panel during the Santa Clarita convention on October 20th.

Our Delegate, Debbie sent a reminder e mail last night which I received at work this morning reminding us about several items –

1) Grapevine "Keep It Simple” Challenge

2)  Submissions for Young Peoples video- I sent all of you the guidelines for this previously

3) Theme, Presentation and Workshop Questions for the General Service Conference in 2009 (This is what my committee will be working on at 2008 Conference) - I will ask that you bring me your submissions at the NOV ASSEMBLY- although you are also welcome to mail them as per Doug's letter

PLEASE get this info to you groups! I will e mail the attachments to you tonight.

Thank you all for allowing me to be of Service.

Grapevine/La Vina – Ongoing contest “Grapevine Challenge” we’ve had 15 new subscriptions

Guidelines and Policies – The Area 93 web site now contains the Area’s G&P

Literature/Audio Visual/Newsletter Michael There is discussion about putting out a pamphlet that explains the difference between GSRs (NY General Service Office and Area) and IGRs (Local Centreal Office).  There is also a need at the Area level for the Area 93 Newsletter.

Public Information / Accessibility/ Website – Jeffrey – GSR is putting out a directory of Central Offices across the US.

Accessibility – Paul There is currently an Area 93 project for elder outreach, contacting related agents in the Area.  Attendees requested additional information to assist and know who in District 17 has been contacted.  – The first 164 pages of the Big Books are published in Sign Language on DVD.  Recently the Stories in 1st and 2nd additions have become public domain and efforts are underway to publish the Stories on DVD.  Signers are being solicited for this project.  The estimated rate is $45 per hour. – It has been suggested to check-out the extent of meetings registered as being Handicap Access, wheel chair accessible to make sure this includes rest rooms.

Registration – Mark V. The registration clean-up process continues.  Note that Central Office directory format or name listings of meetings differ from GSO.  A roster to edit updates is being passed around.  Also, it was noted that if a meeting name differs from what General Office has, and what Central Office has the only way to correct this is to change the name of the meeting.

SFV Liaison:  No report

H&I Liaison – No report

SFV Inter-group Liaison – No report.  Michael F. volunteered for this role

Old Business:

  1. Meeting out reach – Tom spoke about the importance of carrying the message and giving back regarding public information and AA. -  Keith spoke about the local outreach in District 17 to hospitals, police, hotels, etc., regarding getting the message of where AA is and what we do to the public.  He is working on compiling lists of places and also a letter that would be sent out to see if those places would be interested in receiving AA pamphlets and Directories
  2. Hosting a local workshop:  This project will be moved to next year.  Ideas are welcome.

New Business:

  1. Secretary position is open.  This is not an elected position, rather an “available to take the commitment” position.  It consists of taking notes at the monthly district meeting preparing the minutes and e mail them to the DCM.  Taking the sign in sheet from each meeting and updating the District roster.  Please contact Maureen if you are interested in taking this commitment.
  2. Hosting Area Assembly – May 2008 location update.  Paul looked into Granada Hills High School.  Since this location is in another District, considered possibility of co-hosting.  Guidelines for Hosting an Area Assembly are in the Area web site.
  3. Old Timers Event.  Maureen handed our update flyers and emphasized that this type of even should be announced at meeting every chance you can.
  4. November Area Assembly is in Glendale.  Flyers were distributed and all encouraged to attend.
